Boiling Water

1. Step 1

   Lift kettle off the inverted fire pot

2. Step 2

   Turn fire pot over and place on a flat level surface (or on top of the 3 way pot stand, fit into grooves).

3. Step 3

   Collect flammable material like dry grasses, paper, twigs, bark, pine cones, dry dung, and any biomass that burns

4. Step 4

   Fill Kettle with required amount of water via the spout, not more than 2cm from the top. DO NOT BOIL EMPTY!!

5. Step 5

   Place whistle cap on spout without pushing down too tightly. Place whistle hole facing downwards.

6. Step 6

   Place collected tinder and small twigs in the centre of fire pot. Do not overfill above the 1st lip of the fire pot where the kettle will sit.

7. Step 7

   Turn fire pot with hole facing into the wind for greater airflow, unless very windy conditions.

8. Step 8

   Place filled Kettle on top of the fire pot, making sure no twigs or grasses hinder a snug fit.

9. Step 9

   Drop more twigs and bio mass like bark, pine cones, driftwood etc down the top fire chamber/chimney. Don't overfill

10. Step 10

    Light the kindling through the hole in the fire pot. This can also be done before placing kettle on top.

11. Step 11

    Once the fire is going, you can add/drop more dry fuel down the chimney or fire hole as needed. Start with small twigs before adding larger bio mass. Be cautious of the heat & flames emanating from the chimney.

12. Step 12

    Listen for the whistle indicating when the water has boiled.

13. Step 13

    Pull the whistle off using the leather toggle. Be mindful of the hot steam.

14. Step 14

    Grip handles firmly and pour.

15. Step 15

    Extinguish fire by pouring water into the fire pot or using sand. Allow the kettle to cool completely before packing away.

Cooking while heating water

Follow steps 1 - 11.

    Slide & clip 3 way pot stand together to form a cross.

13. Step 13

    Fit 3 way pot stand, now assembled as a cross, using the grooves in the pot stand to stabilise over the chimney, taking care not to burn yourself as heat rushes upwards.

• Use only for reheating or cooking small, quick meals in conjunction with heating water. Do NOT use the kettle without water.
• This is the most thermally efficient use of fuel

Cooking using Fire pot

For longer, sustained cooking. Follow steps 1 - 11.

12. Step 12

    Remove Kettle from the Fire pot.

13. Step 13

    Add more sticks, twigs & bio mass to the pot as needed.

14. Step 14

    Place 3 way pot stand (assembled in a cross) onto the fire pot lip, making sure they are securely fitted into the grooves.

15. Step 15

    Place a small to medium pot or pan evenly on top. Depending on cooking time, more bio mass can be added through the air hole in the pot.

16. Step 16

    Extinguish fire by pouring water or sand into the pot making sure both pot and 3 way pot stand have cooled before packing away.

• The 3 way pot stand can be placed under the pot to raise the Fire pot off ground.
• In sensitive areas, wet ground beneath fire pot.

Tips

• Never use the kettle without water!
• Clean kettle from limescale by using 1 cup water to 1 cup white vinegar. Boil and let stand for 20 minutes. Pour out and re-boil using fresh water to get rid of any residue.
• From time to time clean out the inside of the chimney from a build-up of soot.
• The kettle can be used over a gas burner.
• Store Kettle empty and take the whistle off to allow airflow.
